Complaint about Wrexham Council Housing Department
Wrexham county borough council housing department is wasting public money.
16 months ago contractors started much needed work replacing slate roofs and facia’s in Brynteg, NO consultation was made to the tenants, tenants were threatened with violence, and the police were called, An official complaint was lodged with the Wrexham County Borough Council housing department who then ignored it.
After the contractors left, there were serious concerns about the quality of work carried out, roofs started leaking, cement work around the improvements were not completed and left to the elements, guttering on outhouses were not replaced, and in some cases, no facia’s were replaced, and damage to a carport belonging to an OAP has not been repaired as promised.
I again brought this to the attention of the housing department who arranged for sub contractors to carry out some of the work to my home, but nobody else’s. I pointed out that this kind of workmanship was contrary to building regulations, and that I had gained the opinion of a qualified master builder, who stated that there were severe consequences for the building if this was left to the elements unprotected, and considering the age of the building, It could end up being a very costly repair.
Wrexham council sent an Inspector who’s comment was “Dunno what your whinging for, its not your property, and anyway who cares, its a council house !”.
I again complained and was told that “Seeing your house has been sorted, its got nothing to do with you, and if your not happy, you can always move out”. I pointed out as a tax payer, I had every right to complain as it was public funds. the phone was put down on me. That was 12 months ago, cement work around the improvements have not been made good, damage to property has not been repaired.
Wrexham County Borough Council are not answering complaints on this matter, the housing department refuse to comment. It is the opinion of some residents that Wrexham council housing department dont care about your opinions, thoughts or complaints, and thats because it refuses to address the problems its tenents are complaining about, it has wasted thousands of pounds of taxpayers money, not because they are having problems with the weather, but because it is totally incompetent.
The building firm who carried out the work have long gone, and probably been paid in full, that leaves the council with a further bill to get this important work redone. With that said, and complaints to Wrexham council left unanswered, It is the collective opinion that the head of the housing department (Mr Andy Lewis) should resign his post as he is responsible for making sure his department does its job properly, which it has not. Wrexham council has serious issues with its tenants, with its non-existent complaints procedure, and with the way it deals with the public.
After consultation with a local well known and respected solicitor,who is more than familiar with council rules and regulations, it was stated that Wrexham council does not like being quized on how it runs itself or complaints that show that they are wrong, or in error. This site urges any tenant or resident who has similar problems with Wrexham County Borough Council, whether housing or any other issue to keep complaining, keep the pressure on to get the right answers, its your right to know.
